Abstract

1,033,738. Railway vehicle undercarriages. METALASTIK Ltd. May 16, 1963 [June 6, 1962], No. 21978/62. Heading B7L. Each wheel axle box 10, Figs. 1 and 3, of a railway vehicle bogie is formed rigidly or integral with a hollow radius arm 11 pivoted at 34 through a horizontal transverse rubber bush 14 to a bogie sole bar 12, two rubbermetal interleaf springs 17, 18, Fig. 4, being disposed between the radius arm and a block 24, in V-formation, so that their compression axes C pass close to the wheel axle centre, the block having a slot 25 engaged by a slide bar 26 secured to the upper and lower forked ends 29, 30 of the sole bar 12 and having its upper end engaged by an adjustment screw 31 on the sole bar. The bush 14, provided with inner and outer metal sleeves 15, 16 is carried by a pivot block 35 bolted at 38 to the sole bar and also carried on a platform support 36. The pin 34 of the bush 14 is secured at each end to the forked end of the radius arm. With this arrangement of suspension, the horizontal component of the thrust of the springs 17, 18 due to vertical wheel load acts towards the bush 14 and the flexibility of the suspension is thereby increased. The vehicle body 48 has its underframe 47 carried at each side by a rubbermetal interleaf side bearer 46 on a bolster 41 inwardly from the end thereof and from the sole bar 12. Each end of the bolster is supported on the sole bar by rubber-metal interleaf springs 43, 44 in V-formation. The secondary suspension 43, 44, 46 may be replaced by the suspension described in Specification 1,012,218. Moreover, the pivot 14, 34 may be replaced by a divided roller pivot as described in Specification 714,074. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 981,590.
