Abstract

950,070. Railway vehicle undercarriages. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIV - UND MASCHINENFABRIK. April 14, 1960 [April 17, 1959], No. 13481/60. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle body 1, Fig. 3, is secured to a body traverse member 4 supported on rubber and metal interleaf springs 6 in carriers 9 of a bolster 7 transversely swingable on a bogie frame 3 by rods 8 (see also Fig. 1), the springs 6 being stressed in torsion and shear when the body rotates relative to the bogie on a curved track, but not being stressed by traction and braking forces. The bolster is secured against longitudinal movement relative to the bogie frame 3 by links 11 and the member 4 is connected by a king-pin 12 to the central traverse member 13 of the bogie frame. The member 4 has a rectangular opening 15 to receive a slide block 14 carrying a spherical sleeve for the pin 12. The block 14 can only slide in its opening, transversely of the vehicle. An auxiliary pin 16 secured to the member 4 carries a block 18 slidable, in an opening in the bolster, in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. The blocks 14, 18 can move vertically in the openings in the bolster and member 4. The springs 6 may each consist of an upper and lower section of rubber with an interposed coil spring. According to another embodiment, Figs. 7 to 10 (not shown), a separate swing bolster is provided at each side of the bogie and houses two pairs of upwardly converging rubber-metal interleaf springs engaging, through wedge pieces, on opposite sides of a downwardly extending rib carried by a bracket on the underside of the body traverse member, the rib also extending longitudinally of the vehicle. In plan view, the axis of the spring pairs converge towards the centre of the bogie. Longitudinal movement of the body relative to the bogies, in this case, is prevented by centrally disposed links.
