Abstract

891,461. Resilient supports; railway vehicle undercarriages. METALASTIK Ltd. July 2, 1958 [July 23, 1957], No. 23348/57. Class 103(6). A railway vehicle comprises a body, a single wheel-carrying frame and rubber springs supporting the body from the frame, there being a pair of rubber springs near each end of the body, the springs being each inclined with respect to the vertical, longitudinal and transverse directions so as to resist the vertical, longitudinal and transverse forces tending to deflect the body relative to the frame in combined shear and compression in the rubber, the pair of springs near each end of the body being symmetrically disposed one on each side of the vertical longitudinal plane through the central vertical axis of the body, and the two rubber springs on each side of the plane being symmetrically disposed one on each side of the vertical transverse plane through the central vertical axis of the body and having their compression axes intersecting at a point in said vertical longitudinal plane as the two springs are located, all of the springs being equi-distant from the central vertical axis. A rail vehicle comprises a body 1 mounted on a frame 6 by a pair of transversely-spaced springs 7 near each end of the body, which springs comprises rubber slabs 9 bonded to metal interleaves 10 and attached to blocks 11, one on the body and the other on the frame. The springs are inclined to the horizontal to act mainly in shear but also in compression under downward vertical forces and the springs are also inclined towards the vertical central axis x of the body to resist transverse forces mainlyin shear but also in compression and to resist longitudinal forces mainly in compression but also in shear. Specification 720,365 is referred to.
