Abstract

942,840. Holding and picking-up tools. R. F. BRIDGLAND. June 13, 1962 [April 24, 1961], No. 14712/61. Heading B4W. [Also in Division B8] The distance between the jaws 16, Fig. 1, of a pair of lifting tongs for concrete slabs may be adjusted by attaching the lever arms to appropriate holes 14 in a connecting bar 12 by pins 13a. The jaws 16 comprise curved plates faced with resilient material and carrying rubber pads 18 which prevent damage to the slabs. A detachable wheel 20 may be pinned to one arm 10 to facilitate moving the slabs, whilst a handle 23 is attached to the other arm. Alternatively, the tongs may be raised by a crane which engages a ring 25 on a bar 24 pinned to the arms 10 by shackles 26. To steady the slabs when lifted, rubber-covered lateral arms 27, Fig. 2, may be provided.
