Abstract

1,027,453. Load grippers; luffing arm machines. W. H. PAYNE. April 30, 1962 [Feb. 7, 1961], No. 27355/65. Divided out of 1,027,451. Heading B8H. Articulated load grippers are attachable by a flange 13 to the boom of the load handling apparatus described in Specification 1,027,451. The jaws 35, of which different shapes with different closing actions are shown, are pivotally mounted at 37 on levers 34 actuated by jacks 31. The jaw assemblies 30 are pivotally connected with drive flanges 29 to a main cross-bar 17 and rotatable about the horizontal axis thereof by a powered jack 21 acting through linkage 22, 25-28. The cross-bar 17 is mounted on a vertical pivot 20 of a member 14 and is rotatable by a powered jack 18 while the member 14 is rotatable about the main supporting member 12 by revolving means 15 for which various powered jack-operated rack-and-pinion and linkage arrangements are illustrated. Many alternative forms of jaw assembly rotating means are also described. The grippers jaws may be used to handle an earth boring tool as described in Specification 1,027,452.
