Abstract

1462694 Grippers POCLAIN 17 April 1974 [17 April 1973] 16857/74 Heading B8H [Also in Division E1] Handling and digging apparatus includes a chassis, a jib 5 pivoted on the chassis, an arm 7 pivoted at one end to the jib 5, a digging tool, e.g. an auger 10, grab or bucket (not shown), attached to the other end of the arm, and a handling tool 12 separate from the digging tool fixed to the other end of the arm 7 close to the region of attachment of the digging tool thereto. As described the jib 5 is pivoted to a turret 2 rotatably mounted on base 1, and is operated by an hydraulic ram 6. The arm 7 is pivoted to jib 5 at 8 and is operated by ram 9. An auger 10 driven by motor 10a is pivoted to arm 7 at 13 and can be held clear of the ground by supporting means 11 including a cord 1 1a wound around part of the auger 10. The handling tool 12 includes two pairs of jaws 25a to 25d which can grip a pole 15 and insert it into a previously drilled hole 16. The jaws 25a to 25d are pivoted on bell cranks 23a to 23d and are operated by ram 24. The bell cranks 23a to 23d are pivoted at 22a to 22d to a body 21 pivoted in a clevis 17 which can swivel on a supporting member fixed to the arm 7.
