Abstract

1429413 Dredgers BILLITON RESEARCH BV 21 March 1974 [23 March 1973] 12580/74 Heading E1F Underwater excavating equipment for association with a vessel 1 comprises a main arm 6 adapted for pivotal attachment with the vessel 1 and to be supported therefrom to its other end by cable means 8, an auxiliary arm 4 pivotally attached to the arm 6 at said other end thereof, and adapted to carry excavating means 3, e.g. a bucket wheel, and mechanism 10 mounted between the arms for pivoting the arm 4 relative to the arm 6, the mechanism 10 being such that it can be operated from the vessel to enable the operational depth of the excavating means to be adjusted when the equipment is in use. Preferably the pivotal connection between the arms is so located along the arm 4 that the arm 4 excavating means 3 and suction equipment mounted on the arm are in balance about said connection 5. The mechanism 10 is a piston-cylinder unit preferably controlled by signals representative of the vertical movement of the vessel. Specifications 1359828 and 1359829 are referred to.
