Abstract

866,197. Load-handling machines. LUDOWICI, J. W. June 5, 1957 [June 5, 1956], No. 17942/57. Class 78 (3). An articulated jib 7, 8, is supported by a turn-table 9 provided with articulated legs 2-6 which are individually adjustable by hydraulic rams 15 to vary the position of the jib or to walk the device to a new location. The inclination of jib sections 7 and 8 is adjustable by hydraulic or screw jacks 17, 19, or by a system of chains and sprockets (not shown) driven by an electric motor through a worm mechanism and provided with means for selectively locking the sprockets against rotation to produce level luffing and other movements of the loadengaging tongs 12. The operator sits in a cabin 19a and controls the device through a model, the moving parts of which are connected through an electrical or hydraulic system (not shown) to the corresponding members of the device. In a modification (not shown) the rams 15 are replaced by screw or worm mechanisms.
