Abstract

692,956. Welding by fusion. YATES, H. Aug. 27, 1951 [Jan. 16, 1951], No. 1186/51. Class 83 (iv). [Also in Group XXX] A device for rotating and tilting objects comprises a frame whereon a rotatable table to which an object can be secured is mounted, the frame being provided with convexly curved rockers whereby it can rest and be rocked on a floor or other surface by raising one end of the frame. In an embodiment for tilting 90 degrees a frame a, Fig. 1, having two rockers b with teeth b<SP>1</SP> engaging holes c<SP>1</SP> in track members c supports a table e which is rotated by a pinion m, driven by a motor o and on which a work-piece can be bolted for welding &c. The end of the frame a is lifted by a strut f pivoted to the trame a and to a trolley g which is driven along a track by a chain i secured to the trolley g and travelling over sprockets j<SP>1</SP>, j<SP>2</SP>. Sprocket j<SP>1</SP> is electromotor driven. In a modification the trolley g is driven by a rotatable screw passing therethrough. The strut f may be displaced by fluid-pressure jacks and the strut and displacing means may be duplicated. In a further embodiment a frame a, Fig. 8, for tilting 45 degrees, having rockers b with teeth b<SP>1</SP>, is tilted by means of a pinion s mounted between brackets u on the frame a and driven along a pivoted rack bar t when rotated by a hand crank connected to its spindle s<SP>2</SP>. The hand crank can be locked in any position and the table e is rotated by hand crank. The teeth b<SP>1</SP> &c. which prevent slewing may be replaced by cables, two on each side, which are secured to the floor track and to the remote end of the frame respectively. A hoisting tackle may tilt the frame end. According to the Provisional Specification the frame is provided with curved toothed sectors alongside separate rockers and a pivoted rack-and-pinion in which the pinion is electric motor driven may be employed. A trolley as described in the first embodiment above may carry its own electric driving motor.
