Abstract

1,016,876. Lifting-dogs for hollow articles. RUSTON-BUCYRUS Ltd. April 22, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963], No. 38162/63. Heading B8H. A lifting-dog designed to grip the interior faces of hollow articles has a movable jaw 23 which is turned about a pivot 25 into gripping engagement with a wall 32 of the load article by a pivoted lever 18 and a link 20 when a pull is exerted on a lifting ring 17. Fixed jaws 13, 14 are forced into engagement with the opposite wall. The device is prevented from passing downwards through the load by handles 31. To accommodate loads of various sizes jaws 13, 14 may be either extensible or rotatable like the jaw 23. To ensure an adequate grip the ratio of distance a to distance b is at least 1À5: 1À0.
