Abstract

572,552. Wrenches. TYAS, I. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 16421/43. [Class 61 (iii)] In a wrench for gripping members of circular section, of the kind comprising a block or body a, a cavity a<2> in the body, the wall of which is formed as a series of cams a<3>, and a cage b mounted within the cavity and supporting a series of rollers c which are forced by the cams into gripping engagement with the member d when the body a is rotated, the cams are so shaped that a grip is afforded in either direction of movement of the rollers, and the cage is secured to a sleeve e which surrounds the body and is rotatable on it. In use, the sleeve is held stationary by the hand while the body is rotated, in order to secure an initial grip of the rollers on the member. For gripping inaccessible members, the cage may be secured to a spindle extending through the hollow handle of the body. Specification 17936/07, [Class 61], is referred to.
