Abstract

917,192. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. May 16, 1961 [May 26, 1960], No. 17777/61. Class 38 (1). An electrical socket for receiving a flat contact tab T comprises a pair of flexible blades 6, 8 defining between them a space into which the tab may be inserted, the ends of the blades on opposite sides of the space being rigidly connected to prevent relative outward movement of the ends. In the embodiment shown the socket is formed from a sheet-metal member bent back on itself at a bight 4 to define a convexo-convex space between a pair of arcuate blades 6, 8, the ends of which opposite the bight 4 are rigidly connected by a tongue 24 (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown), extending from the blade 6, through an opening in the blade 8 and bent round to engage the underside of the blade 8. An entry aperture for the tab T is formed in the bight 4 and bell-mouthed at 34 to facilitate entry of the tab T. In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown) the sides of the blades 6, 8 are bell-mouthed at 50 to permit alternative insertion of the tab T at right-angles to the axis of the socket.
