Abstract

[Also in Groups XXIV and XXIX] An hydraulic press, which may be used for the cold deformation of steel, comprises a main ram 7 movable in a frame 1 which is of steel or other metal having similar qualities and is in the form of a tube, and a work-table 3 integral with the tube. The work-table and tube may be welded together and the tube acts as a cylinder for the ram which is movable downwardly by hydraulic pressure applied to its upper surface and is retractable by a doubleacting piston-and-cylinder device 16. Holes 6 in the tube provide access to the upper surface of the worktable and an ejector device 4 is disposed beneath the work-table. In another embodiment, the tube is a solid end forging, the solid end forming the work-table. Wear between the ram and wall of the tube may be taken up by adjusting the thickness of shims 32 beneath the heads of two pairs of diametricallyopposed tapered keys 30 disposed in slots 29 in the ram.
