Abstract

829,460. Extruding. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. June 30, 1958 [Aug. 21, 1957], No. 26359/57. Class 83 (4). A metal extrusion press has a hollow guide 24 centred with respect to the extrusion die 9 and billet container 16 and adapted to receive and centre the extrusion stem 20. The die 9 with its holder is supported by a bolster carrier 13 which is centred by wedges 14 within a die mounting structure 15 having hollow longitudinal extensions 22. The latter enclose the press tie-rods 1 and form guideways for the hollow guide 24 which is moved by rams 27 and has a conical recess 32 adapted to engage a corresponding spigot 33 on the container 16. The extrusion stem 20 including its mandrel 21 is mounted in a stem holder 18 connected by a loose coupling 19 with a crosshead 7 actuated by a main hydraulic ram 4 and retracted by return rams 6. The stem holder 18 is non-rotatably guided by interengaging adjustable tongues and grooves 29, 30, Fig. 3 (not shown), within the bore of the hollow guide 24. The press may be vertical or horizontal and is used for the hot or cold extrusion of solid or hollow articles.
