Abstract
1,265,603. Forging; rolling. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 3 April, 1970 [19 April, 1969], No. 15905/70. Headings B3H and B3M. A ring-forging press comprises a vertical mandrel 10 and a forging ram 7 movable horizontally and mounted in a horizontal C- frame 3. The ring 20 is supported on a bearing surface 21 and displaced linearly during retraction of the ram at an angle to the forging axis so that it is rotated by the ram on the forward stroke. The displacement may be effected by an hydraulic piston-cylinder unit 24, Fig. 4, which moves the bearing surface 21 or by an hydraulic unit (26), Fig. 5 (not shown), with a beam (30) which moves the ring. The displacement moves the ring away from the mandrel and the next advance of the ram causes the ring to roll on the mandrel, Fig. 3c (not shown). The unit (26) may be mounted in a slot (31) for adjustment as the ring diameter increases. The mandrel 10 has an eccentrically mounted smaller mandrel 19 which is used initially on a pre-pierced billet. The mandrel 10 is moved vertically by an hydraulic unit 11 to bring either the smaller mandrel 19 or the main mandrel 10 in line with the ram 7. A ring-flattening press (32), Fig. 6 (not shown), is mounted to act vertically on the ring at the side of the ring-forging press. The rams of the presses are arranged to act alternately.
