Abstract
967,248. Extruding; billet piercing. HYDRAULIK G.m.b.H. Dec. 7, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1960], No. 43910/61. Headings B3H and B3P. A vertical hydraulic extrusion press, particularly for the hot extrusion of steel, has its ram 12 mounted on a movable frame formed by a cross-head 4 interconnected by tie rods 3 sliding in stationary guide bushes 7, to a cross-beam 2 carrying hydraulic cylinders 6 containing plungers 5 secured to a stationary base 1. The frame is retracted by pistons 9 working in stationary cylinders 11. A piercing mandrel 14 is actuated by a piston 16 in a cylinder 16 supported on cross-head 4 and means may be provided for locking the mandrel in its lowest position in the cross head. In a modification, Figs. 6-9 (not shown), the mandrel operating cylinder is mounted in a stationary cross-head disposed above the crosshead 4. Base 1 supports a container 17 for a hot steel ingot coated with a pulverulent glass lubricant, and a holder 18 for the extrusion die. The extruded product, which may be a tube or rod, passes through a guide 20.
