Abstract

395,906. Extruding tubes. KRUPP GRUSONWERK AKT.-GES., F., Magdeburg, Buckau, Germany. Oct. 11, 1932, No. 28339. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1931. [Class 83 (iv).] A hollow billet is extruded between a die 30 and a mandrel 7 to form a tube, the mandrel being free to move forward during extrusion of the blank to reduce wear. The machine frame 1 carries a power cylinder 2 within which works a piston 3 carrying the extruding plunger 4, the piston being hollow to receive the mandrel 7 and its support member 8, 9. A crosshead 14 coupled to piston-rods 17 is first actuated by pistons 18 to advance the mandrel through a solid or hollow blank, the set position being determined by adjustable stops 20 on rods 19, which contact with projections 21 on the frame. The extruding plunger 4 is then advanced, the mandrel 7 following freely with the extruded tube. On the completion of the extruding operation the mandrel is returned by fluid pressure applied to a piston 13 carried on the end of the mandrel support after which the crosshead is returned by the pistons 18, and the piston 3 is retracted by pistons 28.
