Abstract

1,042,030. Metal working presses. FIELDING & PLATT Ltd., and E. H. JOHNSON. Oct. 28, 1963 [Nov. 1, 1962], No. 41444/62. Heading B3H. [Also in Division B5] A metal working press has its tool carrying ram 5 guided by at least one elongated member 7, 8 whose ends are secured to the press frame 1 at points H, N of zero or minimum distortion under load. The press is preferably operated by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure and disposed vertically. Guide bars 7, 8 with radial guide surfaces, Fig. 6 (not shown), are connected to the press bed by the steel ring 10 and to the tubular press frame 1 by a ring 11 which engages the frame only at its points of minimum distortion P, Figs. 2, 5 (not shown). The guide bars 7, 8 may be adjusted by wedge slippers, screws or shims. In another embodiment, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the press has pull back cylinders secured to the guide bars adjacent the press bed.
