Abstract

1,152,237. Draw-down press. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 27 Oct., 1966 [28 Oct., 1965], No. 45723/65. Heading B3H. A draw-down press comprising a fixed base 12 with two or more columns 13 slidably movable therein and a press piston 24 and cylinder 22 assembly has guides 27 on the cylinder so that the frame is able to resist any turning moment produced by eccentric loading. The cylinder 22 is secured to the base 12 and the piston 24 acts against a press-pad 25 on the lower cross-head 16. The columns 13 are also guided in sleeves 26 in the base. The press preferably has four columns 13 with the assembly centrally positioned. In an alternative embodiment two sets of guides (27), (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), are provided on the cylinder. In both embodiments the guides may be carried on rings 28, (31) or the guides may be directly mounted on the cylinder. More than one cylinder may be provided between the base 12 and the cross-head 16.
