Abstract

1345236 Forging DAVY & UNITED ENG CO Ltd 21 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 30582/71 Heading B3H A forging press comprises a base member 2 in which a frame 8 is mounted for sliding by an hydraulic ram 14 acting between the base member and the lower crosshead 9 of the frame and the central part of the opening 4 in the base member is closed off by a cover-plate 18 after insertion of the frame into the opening. Thus the frame can be made in one-piece by casting or assembled prior to insertion. The base member 2 is made up of plates 2A, 2B, 3 welded together and the cover-plate 18 is bolted to the top plate 2A. The cover-plate has guide blocks 20 for the frame columns 8A, 8B and futher guide blocks 2B are provided on small plates 26 bolted to the base member. The lower forging die is mounted on the upper side of cover plate 18 and the ram 14 mounted on the lower side. A pair of pistoncylinder units (30), Fig. 1 (not shown), serve to return the frame. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,152,237.
