Abstract
1,207,687. Hydraulic presses. CAMERON IRON WORKS Inc. 17 Oct., 1967 [30 Aug., 1967], No. 47311/67. Heading B5F. [Also in Division B3] An hydraulic press in which forging or pressing operations are effected between platens 26, 27, comprises first and second cylinders 36, 37 respectively extending from the inner faces of opposed platens 25, 27, first and second rams 38, 39 reciprocable in the cylinders and in forcetransmitting relation with the opposed platen and means 46-49 for introducing hydraulic fluid into the cylinders to urge the platens 25, 27 in opposite directions. The cylinders 36, 37 are on different levels and have their axes laterally offset from one another by a distance less than the sum of the inner radius of one cylinder and the outer radius of the other cylinder. In the example shown there are eight upper rams 38 and seven lower rams 39, all arranged in three rows of five as seen in Fig. 8. The lower ends of the upper cylinders 36 are secured to a load plate 40 on which the lower rams 39 are fixedly mounted. Another load plate 41 is connected to the upper ends of the cylinders 37 and to the rams 38. The load plate 41 is also connected to the platen 27 by four corner posts 44. The platen 27 is secured to four guide columns 31 the lower ends of which slide in cylinders 32 which are used for raising the platen 27.
