Abstract

1,169,066. Hydraulic and pneumatic presses. HYDRO-AIR ENG. Inc. 18 July, 1967 [20 July, 1966], No. 32946/67. Heading B5F. An hydraulic or pneumatic press comprises a C-shaped press frame 1, power means for moving one platen 3 towards and away from another 5 along an axis 11 offset from a line 7 joining the centres of the platen surfaces, in a direction away from the part 13 of the frame 1, the platen surfaces being maintained parallel when pressure is applied to parallel faces of the work so as to compensate for bending of the C-frame. The rearward edges 3b, 5b of the platens may be slightly further apart than the forward edges thereby assisting in ensuring parallelism of the platen surfaces under load. The press may be used for securing wood truss members W together by means of nailing plates N1, N2. The platen 3 is mounted on a ram 43 comprising a tube 47 mounted in a cylinder 31 of slightly greater diameter. The tube 47 has a head 49 and a packing ring 55 held between bushings 55. For downward movement fluid is introduced to cylinder 31 through a line 39, and for upward movement through a port 41 to a space 67 between the ram and cylinder.
