Abstract

748,066. Fork lift trucks. LEWISSHEPARD CO. Aug. 21, 1954, No. 24395/54. Class 78 (3). In a fork lift truck rams 34, 35, which raise the movable mast section 22, are connected hydraulically, by rigid pipes 40, 40<SP>1</SP> with a ram 27, 28 which raises the fork 25 on section 22 ; fluid being transmitted to pipes 40, 40<SP>1</SP> through the hollow plungers 34. The cylinders 35 are secured to the truck frame whilst the cylinder 27 and plungers 34 are attached to the mast section 22. The total effective piston area of the pair of rams 34, 35 is half that of ram 27, 28 and thus rams 34, 35 do not operate until after the ram 27, 28 has been fully extended. Detents (not shown) are provided to lock the fork to the top of section 22 and the bottom of section 22 to the top of the stationary section 21. In a modification (not shown), the rams 34, 35 are replaced by a single ram.
