Abstract

910,594. Cotters. CAM GEARS Ltd. Feb. 18, 1959 [Feb. 18, 1958], No. 5278/58. Class 89 (2). [Also in Group XXXI] A pivotal mounting for use in a vehicle steering mechanism, comprises a bracket 2 in which is rotatably mounted a shaft 1 which is secured against endwise movement by the engagement of the tapered end of a cotter peg 6 in a groove 5 in the shaft. A lock nut 6<SP>1</SP> may be fitted on the peg or alternatively the peg may have a hexagonal head, packing being interposed between the head and the bracket. A grease nipple 13 may be provided. In a modification, Fig. 3, the end of the peg 6 engages between an inclined shoulder 7 on the shaft 1 and a ring 9 held in position by a stud 12. A spring washer 11 is fitted between the stud and retaining member.
