826,469. Making self-locking nuts. SIMMONDS AEROCESSORIES Ltd. July 11, 1958 [Aug. 26, 1957], No. 26832/57. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXV] A method of making a self-locking nut of the kind comprising a body 1, Fig. 2, with screwed bore 2 and a recess 2a housing an insert 3 with screwed bore 3a of the same pitch as, but out of phase with, bore 2, means preventing relative turning of body and insert, and resilient means 6 which is compressed when the nut is screwed on to a bolt, consists in providing on the insert one or more downwardly extending parts 4, Fig. 1, which raise the centre of the insert, tapping the body and insert in one operation, and then flattening parts 4. The resilient means may comprise a spring 6 or a ring of resilient material, e.g. rubber or nylon. The insert may be prevented from turning by ears passing through slots 5 in the recess well. Alternatively the insert and recess may be non-circular, e.g. hexagonal.
