Abstract

1398697 Attaching vehicle wheels to hubs AMIL SA 12 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972] 57618/73 Heading B7C [Also in Division F2] A light alloy or synthetic resin vehicle wheel 9 (Fig. 1) or 26 (Fig. 2) is secured to a supporting disc 10, 25 by fixing devices 1, 17 each comprising a head 2, 18 connected by a frusto-conical portion 3, 19 to a cylindrical portion 4, 20, and either a screw thread 7 formed on a shank extension of the portion 4 (Fig. 1) or an internal screw thread 23 (Fig. 2), and a captive washer 11, 30 of harder material than the wheel 9, 26, freely rotatable on the cylindrical portion 4, 20 and having an internal frusto-conical bearing surface 13, 31 co-operating with the portion 3, 19 and an external frusto-conical bearing surface 14, 29 seating in a frusto-conical bearing surface 15, 28 of the wheel disc 9, 26. The washer is retained on the bolt 1 or nut 17 by a circlip 12, 32 bearing on a shoulder or in a peripheral groove round the cylindrical portion 4, 20. The nut 17 may have a through bore or, as shown, be closed at the head end. The bearing surface 14, 29 may have protuberances to increase friction with the seating 15, 28.
