Abstract

964,917. Furniture joints. JOSEPH DE WACHTER. Sept. 7, 1961 [Sept. 14, 1960], No. 32102/61. Heading A4W. In a fastening device for assembling and fastening furniture of the type comprising a peg 3 adapted to be secured into one of the parts of furniture to be assembled and having a grooved head 19, and a disc element consisting of two disc portions 1-2 each having on their internal surfaces a matching cam surface 6, 12 assymetrically disposed, the disc surface 1 having a cut out part 5 whereby the assembled disc element 1-2 may be mounted on the head 19 of the peg 3 and rotated to engage the cam surfaces 6, 12 with the groove 20 of the peg 3, the disc portion 2 has a hub member 13 and the disc portion 1 a corresponding hole 8 to receive the hub member 13, the disc element 1-2 being assembled by securing the hub member 13 in the hole 8. The hub 13 extends into a trunnion 14 which may be fitted into a conical hole 8 in a hub 7 of the disc part 1. On the end of the trunnion is a chamfer 15 which may be flanged-over into a chamfer 9 on the disc part 1 in order to clinch the disc portions 1-2 solidly together. Flats 16, 17 are provided so that the trunnion 14 assumes a rectangular shape suitable for engaging with the wide diametral groove of the hub 7. The hub 13 and hole 8 are preferably mounted slightly off centre of the disc portions 1-2. Cross-slits 18 are provided in the outer face of the disc 2. The disc-parts may be made of the same material, of two different materials or of identical materials which are finished in a different way. As shown in Fig. 7 the peg 3 may be provided with a threaded part which screws into a nut 22. A cutting screw thread is provided on the outer surface of the nut 22 so that it may be screwed into one of the portions of furniture to be assembled.
