Abstract

797,380. Stud and socket fasteners; screw fasteners; locking bolt-like pins. BAYETTO, A. Nov. 29, 1955 [Dec. 24, 1954], No. 34200/55. Classes 44 and 89(1) A connecting and securing device wherein a bolt is clamped in position by at least one elastically deformable sleeve or socket is characterized by the provision on the bolt shank of at least one annular or helical peripheral rib the shape in cross section of the or each of which in all planes passing through the axis of the bolt being substantially triangular and the side or sides facing the members to be secured extending in a direction perpendicular or substantially perpendicular to the axis of the bolt. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 a single helical rib is provided on the bolt shank and the bolt has a head 2 so that a single socket 3 only is necessary. The socket is provided with a flange 4 and its end nearest the head of the bolt and with longitudinally extending ribs. In a modification a sleeve is used instead of a socket and instead of a helical rib the bolt has a plurality of annular ribs. In a further modification the bolt has no head and is symmetrical about a median transverse plane so that two sleeves are used one on each half of the bolt. In any of the above constructions the shank of the bolt can taper in the manner of a wood screw and the socket or sleeve has a correspondingly tapering bore.
