Abstract

1,010,378. Toothed gearing. BURMAN & SONS Ltd., and W. H. BRIGGS. June 19, 1964 [July 25, 1963], No. 28852/63. Heading F2Q. In a steering mechanism comprising a screw 11, on a steering shaft 10, and a nut 12 having a recess engaged by a projection 16 on a radial arm 15 extending from a rocker shaft 14, the end of the steering shaft 10 is mounted in a bearing 17 which is free to move laterally in a housing 18, and a spring-loaded pin 20 is mounted in the nut and engages the shaft 10 so as to prevent undue rattle between the shaft 10 and nut 12. The pin 20 is located in the side of the shaft 10 remote from the rocker shaft 14 and has a part spherical inner end which is pressed into engagement with the shaft 10 by a garter spring 21 extending around the nut 12. Alternatively, the bearing 17 may be located adjacent the other end of the nut 12.
