Abstract

1,114,667. Cam followers. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 21 Oct., 1966, No. 47241/66. Heading F2K. In a valve operating mechanism of an internalcombustion engine, a tappet 12 is in two parts 14, 16 which are screwed together, the upper part 14 being engaged by a cam 11 and the lower part 16 engaging a valve stem 18, and opposed gear teeth 28, 29 on the parts 14, 16 are adapted to be engaged by a toothed tool 31, Fig. 2, to effect relative rotation of the parts and hence tappet adjustment. The two threaded parts 14, 16 are locked against relative rotation by a spring washer 25 located between a shoulder 26 on part 14 and a circlip 27 on part 16. Alternatively, a self-locking thread could be used.
