Abstract

1289815 Rack-and-pinion gearing CAM GEARS Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [14 Jan 1970] 1803/70 Heading F2Q A rack-and-pinion assembly comprises a housing 1 in which a rack 6 is biased into engagement with a pinion member 2 by a resilient pad 7. The pinion member is rotatable in bearings 10, 11 which restrains it against radial movement and has teeth 4 in engagement with the rack 6 located between the bearings. An adjustable screw member 8 securable by a lock nut 9 engages the end 5 of the pinion shaft through a ball 23 and loads the pinion member against the bearing 11 which comprises a groove 21 in a shaft 3 and an outer race 14 retained in the housing 1 by a circlip 15. In a modified construction the bearing 20 is replaced by a plain bearing.
