Abstract
910,472. Endless conveyers for transporting elongated objects in the direction of their length. SHAW, H. June 1, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 18789/59. Class 78 (1). An elongated object, e.g. a tube 28, is conveyed away from an extruding machine by an arrangement comprising three endless members 12, which may be either belts, as shown, or chains provided with pads, each member 12 being carried by pulleys or sprockets 13, 14 which are mounted on shafts 15 each projecting outwardly from a shaft 17, there being a chain 32 interconnecting sprockets 26 on each of the shafts 17 whereby the members 12 can be moved simultaneously towards and away from the tube 28. An arm 33 is carried by one of the shafts 17 and is acted on by a tension spring 37 to bias the members 12 towards the tube 28, a screwed rod 34 and nut 35 being provided to enable adjustment of the spring tension to suit tubes of different diameter. The shafts 15 are secured to the corresponding shaft 17 by splined sleeves 16, one of which is permitted limited slidmg movement along the shaft 17 so that the belt 12 can be tensioned by a spring 27. The shaft 15 associated with the other sleeve carries a bevel gear 20 secured to the pulley or sprocket 13 and meshing with a bevel gear 21 secured to a driving sprocket 23 loosely mounted on the shaft 17, the driving sprockets 23 of the three shafts 17 being interconnected by an endless driving chain (Fig. 2, not shown). Each belt or chain is supported intermediate the pulleys or sprockets 13, 14 by a backing member, e.g. a plate 24, Fig. 1, which is carried from the shaft 17 via a sleeve 25. In the modification of Fig. 4, the member 12 is a belt having teeth 40 on its underside arranged along the centre line and engaging teeth 38 provided in a central groove of the driving pulley 13. In this construction the belt 12 is supported intermediate the pulleys 13, 14 by an endless belt 41 carried on pulleys 42 and in turn supported by a plate 43, the plate 43 and the shafts of the pulleys 42 being carried from the shaft 17 in the manner of the plate 24 shown in Fig. 1.
