Abstract

905,987. Travelling-wave tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1960 [Feb. 8, 1960], No. 4337/60. Class 39 (1). In a travelling wave tube in which the delay line, preferably a helix is supported by a plurality of insulating rods which extend beyond the line at least at one end thereof, the end or ends of the rods have a coating of conductive material connected to a choke or chokes, whereby a discharge path is formed for static charges picked up by the coating, the coating having one or more small gaps. The wire helix 3 is held by three insulating support rods 4 and has straight ends 5, 6 terminating in cylindrical chokes 7, 8 carried on rods 4 and in contact with helical conductive coatings 9 on the rods. The coatings 9 are of colloidal graphite and are made by putting a mesh of two collinear cylindrical tubes with a wire helix between them over the end of a support rod to be coated, rotating the rod and mesh in a chuck and spraying the rod with a suspension of colloidal graphite in a mixture of water and potassium silicate and baking.
