Abstract
762,565. Travelling-wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 10, 1954 [Dec. 10, 1953], No. 35879/54. Class 39(1). In a travelling-wave tube in which the helix supports 1, Fig. 2, are coated with loss material over part or all of their length to give lumped or distributed loss, an insulating or high resistance coating 3 is provided on the loss material at least at the points in contact with the helix. Rods 1 are of quartz or ceramic material, the loss material 2 may be carbon, e.g. graphite, or metal, and layer 3 is of quartz Layer 3 can be applied by vaporization or cathode sputtering and has a thickness of 0À1-1Á. Coatings 2, 3 can be applied over the whole circumference, as shown, or over part of the circumference Fig. 4 (not shown) or 2 can be over the whole circumference and 3 only over the part contacting the helix 4, Fig. 3 (not shown). It is suggested that rods 1 can alternatively be of glass or can be replaced by a plurality of hollow tubes of quartz, ceramic or glass.
