Abstract
807,357. Travelling wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 11, 1956 [Sept. 20, 1955], No. 27780/56. Class 39(1). In a travelling wave tube of the helix type the helix 1 is supported by three longitudinal quartz rods 2 which are pressed against the helix 1 by at least one resilient non-metallic member 4 surrounding the rods 2 and helix 1. The resilient member 4 may be a split annulus of which there are preferably a plurality spaced along the helix, or a single split tube, and is made of glass or quartz. The split rings or tube may carry a coating of lossy material e.g. colloidal graphite in water which is brushed on. Prior art arrangements in which the rod helix assembly is gripped by a glass or ceramic tube or by a plurality of metal rings are referred to.
