Abstract
773,579. Arc electrodes. CARBONELORRAINE. July 23, 1953 [Aug. 13, 1952], No. 20485/53. Class 39(1). An electric arc anode comprises a sheath a formed by a tube of practically pure carbon and a core b formed by a mineralized hard rod, wherein the rod is centred with respect to the tube by at least three longitudinal ribs c internally of the tube a and/or externally of the rod b, the ridges of the ribs lying on a circumference dimensioned in relation to the rod and/ or core surface diameter such that the rod, upon insertion into the tube, is firmly enveloped thereby. The ribs can be of triangular (with apex angle of for example 60 degrees) or trapezoidal cross-section and can be equally spaced at intervals of the order of 0À5 to 10 mms. The sheath a may be heated or the core b cooled to aid assembly. The core may be stuck to the sheath along a small portion of its length by potassium silicate. Dimensions are specified.
