Abstract
1,208,139. Travelling-wave tubes; attenuators. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 28 Nov., 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 54027/67. Addition to 1,158,874. Headings H1D and H1W. The lossy coating of tantalum on the helix of a travelling-wave tube as disclosed in Specification 1,158,874 is replaced by a coating of tantalum nitride. The coating is applied to a short length of the helix and its supports and is effective to supress the reflected wave. The coating is produced by sputtering, is about 500 thick and is tapered to provide matching. As described, the tube has a slow-wave helix supported by three longitudinal rods spaced at 120 degree intervals and surrounded by a periodic magnetic focusing system.
