Abstract
1,049,037. Travelling wave tubes. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 31, 1963], No. 31119/64. Heading H1D. A travelling-wave tube has a tubular envelope 1 and a helical delay line 2 within the envelope, the delay line being supported by metal rodshaped supports 3 which extend from the delay line through the wall of the envelope. As shown, the metal supports are sealed through insulating members 5 to the metal envelope 1 and are provided with cooling discs or plates 6 on their ends outside the envelope, the discs being screwed on to the pins so that the distance of the discs from the envelope can be varied. The envelope may be provided with two external longitudinally extending flanges between which project the supports, thus forming a cooling channel through which a coolant, e.g. compressed air, may flow. The envelope may be of dielectric material, inserted into a metal tube or metallized with, e.g., silver, Fig. 5 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the envelope is composed of alternate rings of metal and dielectric, each metal ring being fastened to a helix supporting pin, and all the metal rings being conductively connected at points diametrically opposite to the metal pins.
