Abstract

1,238,822. Travelling-wave tubes. THOMSON C.S.F. 26 March, 1970 [28 March, 1969], No. 15013/70. Heading H1D. The collector 30 of a travelling-wave tube is surrounded by a conductive sleeve 31 and insulating rods 34 are disposed between them to conduct heat away from the collector. The sleeve 31 is joined at one end to a ring 32 to which the rest of the tube (not shown) may be joined and the spacing between the ring 32 and the collector 35 is as small as possible to reduce the lens effect of the field between them. The rods 34 may be cylindrical and should be force-fitted between the sleeve 31 and the collector 30 so that they penetrate into the metal of the collector 30, and the coefficients of expansion of the materials should be such that this cold weld effect is not modified by baking to 400-450‹ C. during manufacture. The collector may be of copper, the rods 34 of alumina, and the sleeve of stainless steel.
