Abstract

1282797 Treating glassware; reshaping glass tubing BENDIX CORP 11 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 58852/70 Heading C1M [Also in Division H1] A multi-channel electron multiplier 12, Fig. 1, is provided with an input section in the form of a single channel multiplier 16 with a flared input end 18. Preferably the multiplier 12 comprises six or seven channels of spiral form; this and the single channel part 16 may be of lead or bismuth glass hydrogen-reduced in a heated environment to form electron emissive interior surfaces, and the cone 18 may be shaped by heating the end glass of tube 16 and forcing it over a mandrel. A terminal 24 provides connections to the output end of the section 16 and to the input end of the section 12 which are spaced apart by about 1 mm.; a terminal 22 is connected to the input end of the cone 18 by a conductive coating. The cone 18 may be of circular, elliptical or rectangular cross-section (Figs. 3, 5 and 6, not shown).
