Abstract
1,064,073. Electron multipliers; cathode-ray tubes. Dec. 6, 1963 [April 3, 1963], No. 13204/63. Heading HID. In an electron-image intensifier device comprising a matrix of elongated channel C having resistive and secondary-emissive inner surfaces extending between input and output conductive faces E 1 , E 2 of the matrix, the axes of the channels lie at an angle α, in the range 3À5 to 11 degrees, to the normal to the input and output faces of the matrix, so that an electric field f can be set up within the channels at an angle to the channel axes. The angle α is preferably 4 degrees. The matrix may be manufactured as described in Specifications 1,064,073 and 1,064,075, and may be of resistive and secondary emissive glass as described in Specification 1,031,987 or ceramic, or may be of insulating glass having suitable channel coatings. Also the matrix may have output collimator means, coaxial with the channels, as described in Specification 1,064,074. The device may be used in light and X-ray image intensifiers, cathode-ray display tubes or image orthicon camera tubes, and the input and output faces of the matrix may be curved or planar. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 979,687.
