Abstract

1,064,074. Electron multipliers; cathode-ray tubes. MULLARD Ltd. Dec. 6, 1963, No. 13205/63. Heading HID. In an electron-image intensifier device comprising a matrix of elongated channels C, Fig. 1 (not shown), having resistive and secondary emissive surfaces extending between input and output conductive faces E 1 , E 2 of the matrix, a conductive collimating lens duct L, Fig. 3, is provided as a continuation of each channel at its output end, the ducts being electrically connected to, or forming part of, the output electrode E 2 . The lens ducts L limit the spread of the elemental beams emerging from the matrix channels during their passage to the target S, and are preferably of aluminium which has a secondary emission coefficient which is not greater than unity. The matrix may be manufactured as described in Specifications 1,064,072 and 1,064,075, the conductive coatings L, E 2 being formed together by evaporation at an angle from a source which is moved round the axis of the matrix. The device may be used in light and X-ray image intensifiers, cathoderay display tubes or image orthicon camera tubes. The faces of the matrix may be curved or planar and the axes of the channels may be at an angle to the normal as described in Specification 1,064,073. The matrix material may also be described in this Specification. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 950,640.
