Abstract

1,103,526. Klystrons. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. 29 March, 1966 [1 April, 1965], No. 13858/66. Heading H1D. The interaction gaps (29, 31, Fig. 2, not shown), at the two ends of the final drift tube (34) of a klystron are asymmetrically disposed, in the axial direction, in their respective resonant cavities (30, 32), such as to leave a maximum of the length of the drift tube outside and between the two cavities; this arrangement, by providing a greater proportion of the length of the tube available for the receipt of cooling and focusing means, permits the use of a shorter final drift tube, as is rendered desirable by the high space charge density therein.
