Abstract

1,078,236. Transit-time tubes; particle accelerators. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Aug. 25, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 34751/64. Heading H1D. An electron discharge device, e.g. a travelling wave tube, particle accelerator or klystron, comprises a plurality of mutually coupled resonators 20 disposed along a common axis, each defined by a peripheral wall, apertured portions forming slots 50 in the peripheral walls, and terminated waveguides 52 coupled to the cavities through the apertures. The resonators are preferably of clover-leaf configuration as described in Specification 949, 521, having coupling slots 38 between adjacent resonators. The terminated waveguides have lussy ceramic bodies 54 for absorbing unwanted wave modes coupled out of the cavities. Channels 46 are provided for the passage of a coolant.
