Abstract
869,681. Travelling wave tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 25, 1960, No. 10602/60. Class 39(1). In a travelling wave tube the slow wave structure is a conductive wire helix supported by three parallel dielectric rods outside the helix, each of which touches the .other two rods and contacts the helix. The rods 13, Fig. 3 are cylindrical or part cylindrical as shown at 16, Fig. 4, and are of quartz. The rods may be of the same or of different diameters. They are held by circlips 14 and mounted -in end cups, and have a coating of loss material. At each end a helix probe extends across a rectangular waveguide and can be glazed to one rod. The envelope has an expansion joint. An axial focusing magnetic field is provided. The tube may be a backward wave oscillator.
