Abstract

943,843. Travelling wave tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Sept. 26, 1961 [Jan. 2, 1961], No. 54/61. Addition to 844,332. Heading H1D. In a travelling wave tube as claimed in the parent Specification the rods supporting the helix are extended beyond the choke at the gun end of the tube and these rod extensions are encircled by a helical metal spring acting also as a choke helix. The choke helix and main delay line helix are both conductively secured to the choke 11 by welding. The gun anode has a peg to keep the ends of the quartz rods parallel during assembly. In the assembly operations a temporary tungsten wire helix is inserted between the peg and the quartz rods to prevent buckling, after which the choke helix spring is fitted. Next the delay line and rod structure are fitted over the gun peg and then the temporary helix is removed. Graphite coatings on the quartz rods provide loss.
