Abstract

1,030,173. Television pick-up tubes. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 10, 1962 [Aug. 18, 1961], No. 29826/61. Heading H1D. In a cathode-ray tube comprising a photoconductive target 3, a mesh electrode 4 facing the target, a tubular anode 5, and an electron gun including at least one anode 8, the mesh 4 and gun anode 8 are connected together within the tube, and are maintained at a positive potential different from that of tubular anode 5. As shown, gun anode 8 is connected to a conductor 11, arranged in a glass tube supported from tubular anode 5 by metal straps, and provided with a spring 12 contacting mesh support ring 10. An improvement in resolution is said to be obtained whether the mesh 4 is positive or negative with respect to wall anode 5, but it is preferably positive thereto so that it constitutes an effective ion trap. Examples of operating potentials are given.
