Abstract
870,190. Electron lenses. JOHNSON & HOFFMAN MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Nov. 3, 1958 [May 28, 1958], No. 35246/58. Class 39(1). A re-entrant tubularelectrode 22, Fig. 6, having an integral flange 25 extending radially outward from the outer tubular section 24 of the electrode in a plane parallel to, between and spaced substantially from, the opposite ends of the inner re-entrant tubular section of the electrode has integral angularly spaced mounting elements 38, Fig. 3, each defined by notches in the periphery of the flange. The elements 38 are bent round to the form 39, Fig. 6, and these tabs are embedded in insulating support posts 35, 36, Fig. 1, when the electrode is used to form part of an electron gun. In an electron gun an immersion lens comprising electrode 12 (which contains a cathode (not shown)) and anode 16, and an einsel lens comprising electrodes 19, 20, 21 are of the re-entrant form described above. Attached to the electrodes 19 and 20 are electrodes 26 and 26a being of the form, and mounted as shown so that the ends 27, 27a of the electrodes project into each end of a re-entrant tubular electrode 31.
