Abstract

1,254,666. Cathode-ray display tubes. WAGNER ELECTRIC CORP. 7 May, 1970 [23 May, 1969], No. 22034/70. Heading H1D. A display device which includes anode display elements 16A-16G and a thermo-emissive cathode 14A, 14B inside an envelope 12 comprises an electrically shielding layer 26 disposed around a portion of the envelope. The layer 26 is connected through spring contacts 28 and a switch 36 either to earth when the layer functions as a shield or to a negative potential when the layer blanks out the display by preventing electrons from reaching the anodes.
