A thread-feeding device for a knitting machine comprises a single cylindrical roller 6a directly coupled to or forming part of an electric motor so as to be rotated at a high speed between 3000 and 5000 r.p.m. whereby a thread bearing against the smooth hard surface of the roller is fed to the needles of the machine. The speed of rotation of the roller is such that slip occurs between it and the yarn, the degree of which, however, varies depending on the tension in the yarn. Two devices may be mounted side by side as a unitary structure.
